FSH stimulates the growth and development of unfertilised eggs during the menstrual cycle in women and initiates the production of sex hormones such as oestradiol and progesterone. FSH is also used to stimulate the production of sperm in men. The FSH hormone is often tested with other sex hormones such as LH, testosterone, oestradiol and progesterone for diagnose infertility and pituitary gland disorders in men and women.
Luteinizing Hormone
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is a reproductive hormone that is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. This hormone is used to regulate the menstrual cycle and ovulation by stimulating the ovaries to produce other reproductive hormones in females whereas in men, LH stimulates and controls testosterone. The LH test is used to determine any reproductive problems.
Prolactin
Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary glands in the brain. The main role of prolactin is to promote lactation (breast milk production) in women during pregnancy and after childbirth. A prolactin test is used to diagnose infertility in both men and women as well as menstrual problems and erectile dysfunction.

This is a quantitative Beta HCG test that can identify whether you are pregnant or not. It can also be used to monitor how your pregnancy is progressing on a weekly basis. This test is more sensitive than a urine pregnancy test allowing you to confirm pregnancy earlier. What is the difference between the blood test and the standard urine test? Whilst both tests measure beta HCG levels, studies have shown that the blood test allows for earlier detection of pregnancy as it is more sensitive. Typically, the urine test is best done 1 week after a missed period as before this time the accuracy is limited. There is also a higher chance of a false positive result. The added benefit of this beta HCG blood test (quantitative) is that it is able to tell you how far along the pregnancy is. Repeated testing can tell you if the pregnancy is progressing at the expected level and potentially identify issues. What potential issues can this test identify? If the level of HCG is low or the trend is declining then this can be an indication of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. However, this is not diagnostic and would require a detailed review with your doctor. If the level of HCG is high or the trend is increasing at a rate faster than expected then this can be an indication of multiple pregnancy (twins etc) or Molar pregnancy. Sexual Health (6 Biomarkers)

Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection from the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is by far the most common sexually transmitted disease in the UK at present. A large percentage of people with this will not exhibit any symptoms thus chlamydia often being referred to as “The Silent Epidemic”. Chlamydia can be easily treated , if left untreated however it can cause significant reproductive problems. Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) are produced in the body by the hepatitis B virus. It is a virus which causes a liver infection and is spread from contact with the blood and bodily fluids of an infected person. HBsAg tests are used to diagnose if a person is currently infectious.
Hepatitis C Antibodies
Hepatitis C Antibodies (HCAg) are produced by the immune system after exposure to hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is a virus which causes a liver infection and is spread from contact with the blood of an infected person. HCAg tests are used to determine whether a person has previously been exposed to hepatitis C.
HIV 1&2 Antibodies & p4 Antigen
HIV 1&2 antibodies are produced by the immune system after exposure to HIV. HIV 1&2 antibodies tests are used to measure the presence of antibodies being produced in response to the presence of HIV. Levels of the viral p24 protein are present in the blood serum of newly infected individuals during the short period between infection and seroconversion, making p24 antigen assays useful in diagnosing primary HIV infection.
Syphilis IgM/IgG
Syphilis IgM/IgG are produced by the immune system during and after exposure to syphilis. IgM are antibodies that are the first form of response to syphilis and are used to indicate current infection.
