Emergency
Contraception
(morning after pill)

Hill Top Pharmacy can offer FREE emergency hormonal contraception (the morning-after pill) to those eligible in Sandwell, provided certain conditions are met.

The pharmacist will need to go through a short, discreet consultation with you to determine if the pill is suitable for you and is likely to be effective. This is a completely private and confidential consultation.

The pill is most effective when taken within 72 hours of contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse, and is more effective the sooner it is taken. It is important that you present for this service as soon as possible if these occur.

If the pill is not suitable or is not likely to be effective, your pharmacist can advise you on the next steps you could take.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us on 0121 422 2164.

NHS Medicines
Use Reviews

This FREE NHS service is intended to help you get the most out of your medicines. It allows you to have a face-to-face conversation with our pharmacist to check how you are getting on with your medicine, which is useful if you regularly take several prescription medications or have a long-term illness. These may include asthma, COPD, diabetes, high blood pressure or an illness that requires you to take medication to prevent blood clots. Your pharmacist may ask you if you would like a check up, or you can ask your pharmacist if you feel you may benefit from a check up.

This confidential service will help you find out more about your medicine, identify any problems you may be having with taking your medicine as intended, and help you take your medicine to best effect. As always, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about your medicines during your conversation. In some cases where there’s a problem and a solution can’t be found between you and the pharmacist, you’ll be referred back to your doctor. You pharmacist will ask for consent to do this before starting the service.
No appointments are needed, pop in anytime that is convenient for you.

NHS New Medicines
Service

If you're prescribed a medicine to treat a long-term condition for the first time, you may be able to get extra help with your medicine from your pharmacist through a FREE scheme called the New Medicine Service (NMS). As part of the scheme, your pharmacist will support you over several weeks to get the best out of your new medicine.

If you are taking a new medication for any of the following conditions, your pharmacist may ask if you would like to take part in the service:

asthma

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

type 2 diabetes

high blood pressure

new blood-thinning medicine

Once you have had a chance to start taking your new medicine (7-14 days) our pharmacist will speak with you to see how you are getting on with your medication, either in person or over the phone. They will check how you are taking your medicines and help address any problems you might have to support you. After another two to three weeks, you will have a final check up to make sure you are okay with your new medicine and help remedy any lingering issues. Your pharmacist may, with your consent, contact your GP where they feel necessary to further assist you.

Medication Tray
Service

If you take multiple medicines each day, it can be a hassle planning your medication around your daily life. Some patients may forget to take their medication, or become overwhelmed when given large amounts.

Depending on which medicines you are taking, we can organise your medication into weekly blister packs to simplify your daily routine. These packs arrange your medicines into individual pockets, each labelled with the day of the week and time to take them.

If you are interested, speak to our pharmacist to see what we can do for you

Stop Smoking
Service

Want to stop smoking but are unsure how to start? With our 12 week programme, we're here to support you every step of the way.

Through our service you will receive one-to-one support and encouragement from our trained, experienced advisor through 12 weekly sessions. They will offer you practical advice, help motivate you and recommend nicotine replacement products where suitable. If you receive your prescriptions for FREE, we are able to supply you with nicotine replacement therapies FREE under this service.

Where nicotine replacement products do not seem to be working for you, we are able to request a prescription medicine, Champix®, from your GP. The decision to prescribe this medicine lies with your GP.

To book an appointment, either visit Hill Top Pharmacy or call on 0121 422 2164.

Flu Vaccination
Service

NHS Flu vaccinations are available every year at Hill Top Pharmacy to help protect adults at risk of flu and its complications. Flu, unpleasant but otherwise harmless in healthy individuals, can be severe in certain individuals who may be at a greater risk of complications. These can include individuals over 65, those with chronic conditions, pregnant women, those with a weakened immune system, or carers for example. Flu vaccinations help prevent these serious complications from happening.

No appointment is needed, simply come see us when it’s convenient for you. Private flu jabs are available for those unable to receive this vaccination under the NHS.

If you are unsure if you are eligible for NHS flu jabs, or would like more information, click here.
